We tested these using Windows XP and Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit versions) with no. 1 being FREE and one at a very low reasonable cost ( 15.).
I think you would be better off just picking one and trying it out - Get the correct calbe for your radio and yo should be good to go. However Bob Freeth G4HFQ in the UK comes to the rescue with 2 very useful and bug free programs for Windows PC folks (sorry don't know of any for Mac users) as long as you carefully follow instructions. THe ADMS software is fairly easy to use - its alot like the scanning softwares for my pro-106 meaning if your familiar with object oriented programming for like PSRedit, ARC500 or WIN500 you will feel right at home. as well as capture my radios basic set mode settings. The software interface to my radio ads yet another dimension to my fun - as I can "play" with the organization of my saved freq's tweak the the tags for the frequency names as well as the banks I store them in - and then create different sets of banks, link banks for scanning etc. He does have screen shots at his website G4HFQ Radio Programming Software, and he seems pretty active in coding updates and fixes. Full remote control is likely not possible, power on and off, as an example, and there are certain oddities with the main and sub VFO handling as. I have seen the commander software from G4HFQ and thought about checking it out but I don't have any real experience to talk about. The FT-920 has a standard RS-232 serial port built in and all that is needed is a normal serial serial cable with a DE-9 at the radio end (male on the cable, if I recall correctly-check your manual). Same as with my scanners I use the software available for them to program and tweak - but I still can do it manually for the same reasons. Drivers for USB cables based on the Prolific PL2303 where you get the message cannot start code 10 shown in Device Manager.
Though I've only recently just begun using it as I first wanted to know how to proram the radio on the fly so that if I am somewhere without my computer and cable I could still do it. The developer of that plugin has been very helpful in helping me get it to emulate the table of Ham Domains. But I found a wonderful plugin Link Library that appears to be doing the job.
It was a struggle with how I would be able to reinstate the Ham Domain table into WordPress. I use the ADMS (RT Systems programmer RT Systems Radio Programming Software) software for my VX8 for now. Recently, I upgraded my Web site to WordPress.
